Municipal Waste, Lamb Of God and Kreator

March 4th 2023 in Grugahalle, Essen, Germany.

To be clear, this evening was to chaotic and with a lot of stress, we skipped making a video report, but decided to write a short review instead.

On a Saturday in march 2023 I travelled with my good friend Jesse to the German Ruhrpott to see two really great bands we also know in person. Muncipal Waste from the USA and the German band Kreator, who played a home match in the city of Essen in the North-Rhein Westphalia district (Ruhrpott). After arrival to downtown Essen we first visited some friends to drink coffee and eat cake to return back to the Grugahalle on time. When we arrived at the location we directly met some friends, who warned us to get in line on time. But we decided to look for some food first and this was no good plan. Due the lack of ordinary cheap food places in the area, we arrived way to late on location. So after we got in a long line to get in, there also was a second guestlist-line, where my name was spelled wrong. Due all of this, we arrived at the end of the gig of one of my favourite Crossover Thrash Metal bands Municipal Waste.  Both of us, my comrade Jesse and me were very disappointed we missed them. And the same happened with the American Metal band Lamb Of God. We also missed this gig. Now, because we had no cash money to buy beer (in Germany its still seems cash only)! and so we went out to get to an ATM machine in town to get cash money. We returned back in to meet some friends and see headliner Kreator, who opened with the Iron Maiden intro “Run To The Hills”. And besides the fact they only played a couple of old songs, like “Pleasure To Kill” and “Flag Of Hate”. The band was enjoyable as always. A good show in a big hall, with great sound and great light show, including exploding fireworks and crowd surfers and headbanging fans all over the place. Just an incredible concert. Of course personally I would've liked more older stuff, but they're touring a new album, so it makes sense. After the concert there was also a afterparty planned in town. Which was enjoyable and a good place to meet many friends. After a short sleep on the couch, our friends Bine and Mars Hell were so friendly to drop us of back home. All in all an entertaining and intense weekend for an old fart like me. Bis bald Deutschland!
