Endzeit Festival 2024

The Void’s Embrace, Destroy Them, Hexer, The Night Eternal, Attic

27-01-2024 at the Zeche Carl Altenessen, Germany

And again on our way to Germany, now with my good Belgian friend Joe. First with a food stop at Café Nord, downtown Essen, before we continued our way to the Zeche Carl in Altenessen. This was the place were Thrash Metal was born back around 1982. When we arrived we met many familiar faces, which was very cool. The 1st band tonight was “The Void’s Embrace”. This is a melodic Death Metal band from Gelsenkirchen that released their debut album “Dawn of a Stillborn Sun” on my own Headbangers Records. The Void’s Embrace” played a very brutal set of melodic Death Metal. Singer Andreas is a beast onstage and the band is still growing in my opinion. Great opener for a great evening. The local Thrashers “Destroy Them” were up next. This band with Ventor’s son Jerome Reil on drums plays very fast and tight old school Thrash Metal. Think about Sepultura meets Kreator with also some 90’s crossover parts. I really liked it. The two men band “Hexer” from Dortmund were up next with their very intense Black Doom Sludge music. I checked half of their set and they were good, but not really my taste. After a few more drinks, co-headliner “The Night Eternal” kicked off with their Gothic Rock/Post Punk music. Still can’t believe this is the same band I booked years ago at the Little Devil Bar in Tilburg, The Netherlands. The Night Eternal has grown intensely. This local band from the City of Essen has so much energy and passion in it. I really love their musical mixture between: “Type O Negative, In Solitude, The Sisters Of Mercy, Candlemass, Mercyful Fate”, among others. A new Heavy Metal Rock supergroup with great song writing and a very powerful and charismatic frontmen. I love you Ricardo, you make me proud. Few more beers and chats followed until headliner “Attic” kicked off with their set of Occult Heavy Metal. Attic comes also from the region, Gelsenkirchen and the band never stopped growing since I booked them in the early stages of their career. After a long silence, the band recently released a new studio album in 2024, “Return of the Witchfinder”, which I still need to add to my collection. What to say about Attic, the King Diamond/Mercyful Fate vibe hasn’t disappear. Does this bother me, hell no, not at all! The band and especially their super singer nailed it as usual, also on stage they delivered with a well-designed performance. I was very happy to see them onstage again. Thank you Peppi and Joshua for this cool evening and the hospitality. Endzeit Festival is great festival in a cool venue, with good sound, a cool staff and of course lots of cool people. Danke.
