Vouziers Metal Festival (1986-2018)

Another road-trip was planned and more and more I love the French and their music! France is still a country many people ignore, they think (think!!!) French people suck and do not WANT….. to speak English and also they are often blamed for being arrogant. This is all complete bullshit, believe me! French people are actually really friendly and loyal but really have not the knowledge about other languages. This is because it was simply never learned at school, but if you are open for their culture, their (great) bands and if you (at least) do your best to speak the French words you’re able to, you get their respect, friendship and can have a really great time with them. France is a great upcoming country for old school Metal, as well old as newer bands in the traditional style! Vouziers Metal Festival is the French answer to the German ‘Keep It True Festival’, but all focused on overall classic 80’s French Metal bands with just an international headliner, this time it was the NWOBHM band ‘Demon’ from Leek, Staffordshire, England who closed a full day of Hard & Heavy Madness! I was there with a stand full of vinyl’s, cd’s, tapes, shirts and other merchandise so had no time to write a proper live report. All I can say, this was the 2nd Vouzier Metal Festival I attended and definitely not the last. Unique classic Metal Festival for traditional Metal-fans, all with fair food and drink prices, located in the beautiful French Ardennes near the City of Sedan. It was a really good day with a good selling, many friends from all over the world, even maniacs from Mexico and Chile were attending. I was too busy to write proper reports of every single band, just want to let you know, I had five/six favourites. The openings act was the French 80's Metal attack by the cult band ‘Venin’, from Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, the south. These days the guys still kick ass, (Have seen and meet these friendly guys at our stand), who have a NYHC/Venice CA look nowadays like bands such as: Agnostic Front, Suicidal Tendencies, Leeway and Beowulf! They even told me they are big Hardcore fans these days, so I gave them the ‘Tilburg Hardcore Never Dies! CD and they liked it. But also the French (more American styled) Hard Rock Heavy Metal band ‘Attentat Rock’, (also from the Southern part of the Country) kicked seriously ass. As well the more Thrash Speed Metal oriented bands ‘Titan’’, ‘Killers’ and ‘ADX’, as well the French Motorhead inspired act ‘Vulcain’ and the finest of all ‘Blaspheme’, from the Paris area, who are an amazing band with two amazing classic albums from 1984 and 1985, all with two great vocalist, including the singer of the fantastic French retro Heavy Metal act ‘Hürlement’, from the city of Paris. All in all a really great event with good sound in a nice location, a good violent friendly fun vibe, some drinks (not too many, because of work) and 10 fantastic traditional Heavy Thrash Speed Acts! Thanks for having a stand on your great festival William Voluer (président), well done organized mate! Finished the night with a home party with some French and my label partner Matt Verschoor, see also Ear Danger at the B&B, we stayed and survived the night!
