Progressive Black Metal from Mannheim in Germany, that is what Neon Zeon is all about. This is their second full length album, and they sure give you a lot to listen to and digest. Astral Bliss might be the title, but I do believe that many listeners don’t hear this being really blissful, but more demonic.
I really didn’t expect to be impressed by Neon Zeon, but I must admit I am. This is very good death metal mixed with some black metal influences and even some metalcore. What makes them stand out is that they really do know how to (mis)treat their instruments and make every song into a coherent one.
There’s nothing simple about what Neon Zeon does. Astral Bliss will not allow itself to become background music. There’s too much going on to even think of that happening. You can even understand what they’re singing/grunting/shouting about. And after putting all of the tunes in the right order Neon Zeon has succeeded in making one hell of an album. Astral Bliss indeed.
