They’ve done it again. Modern metal giants Dagoba are back with a vengeance. They have always made impressive records, but this one takes the cake. This is more varied than anything they have done before. It isn’t as in your face as their former stuff, is more subtle when needed, but still brutal when asked for. I’d say that they have found a better balance between being the hard-edged metal band they’ve always been and the melodic parts they have added to their impressive mix.

For those who don’t know Dagoba, they are a French band that should have been at least just as big as their fellow countrymen Gojira. They have made seven albums before this one, and I honestly can say I never had heard a bad one amongst them. But where they were very much an angry in your face kind of band so far, now they have changed.

Dagoba uses many influences and music styles on By Night. Extreme metal mixed with shards of electronic music and gothic rock, but always with an emphasis om blowing your top. Because however many outside rays of light they let in, they still are a pure heavy metal band with a very sharp edge. It’s just that they’ve covered those edges to prevent you from cutting yourself too severely. Impressive. So, as you might gather, I for one am sold again.
