It is actually kind of strange that Headbangers Records has helped to release this The Mondstein Chronicles Part 1: Awaken The Gods album, as there is just about as much of headbanging to do as on an ABBA album. This is about as weird as you can get. This is experimental free style jazz combined with classical music, rock and jazz guitars and sometimes some pure rock and pop music parts.

This is absolutely not suitable to be used as background music, as it requires constant attention to take in all the different styles, the changes of rhythms, the use of all kinds of different instruments and the very strange structures that are being used.

I know, you would think that this would throw me off as a pure metalhead, but somehow it has got me utterly intrigued. Whether this is good or not, I haven’t got a clue. This kind of experimental music is usually not something I would listen to, but I have to admit that I did this time, and it made me think that even though this is a great intermezzo from all the heaviness I listen to, it is not something that will be played too often.

That, however, has more to do with my taste than with the quality of the musicians and or songs/soundscapes and my narrowmindedness. So, if you’re feeling very adventurous, have a listen to The Mondstein Chronicles Part 1: Awaken The Gods. You might be positively surprised. I know I was. And if this is to your taste, why not go for Part 2 & 3?
