German Thrash Metal is a musical genre in itself, especially with so many bands doing their best to better their big four of Kreator, Destruction, Sodom and Tankard. But very few succeed. On the other hand, there are also bands that just try to impress by the sheer enthusiasm they display. Paxtilence definitely falls under the latter category.

They play to their hearts content and really give it all they got. Rather fast, very simple and straightforward Thrash Metal that will put smiles on the faces of the Teutonic Thrash lovers as well of the Bay Area Thrashers. Paxtilence have a way of effortlessly mixing the two on Wildfire. And it is heart-warming.

What I would have liked to hear, though, is more variety in the songs themselves. They all sound just that bit too similar. A change in pace, a variation of intensity and a difference in intensity would have made Wildfire a lot more interesting. I will not even dare to say that this is a bad album, on the contrary. It’s just that now they will have trouble standing out in the vast Thrash Metal crowd. Maybe next time?

If you wish to listen and/or purchase this record, just go the sites of the record companies and you should be able to find your copy quite easily. And even though I have been a little harsh on Paxtilence, I have to admit that I really enjoyed listening to Wildfire.
