Final Cry is a German thrash/melodic death metal band that has been going for more than 30years. I have to admit I had never heard of them before I started listening to them. The band has just unleashed it’s seventh slab of music on the world with The Ever-Rest.
To make it simple, the main focus is the thrash part, but the melodic death metal part is never far behind. And judging by the songs on The Ever-Rest I can only conclude that the experience they have acquired is paying off. Every tune has a head, a tail and a healthy body. So far, so good.
The thing that is bothering me is that even though Final Cry have been around such a long time they never showed up on my radar. And when listening to The Ever-Rest it becomes clear why. This is good, but not outstanding. This is solid, but not spectacular. This is heavy, but too clean. This is hard, but without sharp edges.
I feel this would have been even better if they had let loose at times, let the filthy side shine through on occasion. But they haven’t. So, if you like your music to be within certain perimeters, you will be fine with Final Cry in general, and The Ever-Rest in particular.
