Here we have a French multi instumentalist who moved to Germany to make a living through music, because he figured that his chances were better there. Charley Verlaine worked with various bands since 2013 and at last in 2020 he had enough material to record his own album. The result is Komorebi, hard rocking album with 10 fine sounding tunes. Don't try to put an age on the music that is on it, as you will hear influences ranging from the eighties until current time. The only two people playing along on the album are drummer Joe Babiak (Michael Angelo) on all songs and Frédéric Leclercq (Kreator) with a guitar solo on Wild Child.

But what's most inportant is that it has resulted in a coherent album with very good songs. And that's no mean feat, as when you start amalgemating different musical styles and eras you could fall into the trap of estranging the connection between the songs. Thankfully Charley Verlaine has avoided that. It does help that he has a voice that suits his style of easy listening hard rock/heavy metal. Plus the mixing and mastering by David Thiers has made it sure that you can hear everything that is being played. The structure remains transparent at all times, whilst the sound is heavy enough to please many a rocker.

If you're not afraid to broaden your horizons of hardrocking music, please give Komorebi a listen. You might be very pleasantly surprised. I know I was, and still am!

The album is available through https://charleyverlaine.bandcamp.com/ as digital download.
